Community is a fundamental part of our existence. In order to plant and fertilize the seeds for generations to come, I know that I have a responsibility to teach about hope and how it will prevail. I am fortunate and blessed to have worked with and/or contributed to nonprofit organizations such as The Boys & Girls Club, Suit-Up Charlotte, The Dove's Nest, World Book Night, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Florence Crittenton Services, the Girl Scouts, Wine to Water and the Lupus Foundation to name a few.
When I co-founded Favorite Things for a CAUSE (Creating Awareness by Understanding Setbacks through Edification) in 2007, we wanted to apply this mission through community service and benevolence by using some of our favorite things to do (such as donating books, clothing, shoes, food, art appreciation and our time). The inaugural project held at The Dove's Nest, a subsidiary of the Charlotte Rescue Mission, received generous support from family, friends and businesses. Favorite Things for a CAUSE celebrates many unsung heroes, doing some extraordinary things in our communities. Everyone has a purpose in life. Many everyday people are committed to serving their community by making a difference delivering compassion, assistance and understanding, even when they are not financially wealthy or hold a celebrity status. Our existence is not about us, but about what we do. As we look at our lives, we must think about the type of legacy we will leave for the next generation, to educate, encourage and empower them. Become a participator of life and a messenger of hope, instead of being a spectator of slothfulness. Regardless of your race, denomination, educational background or socioeconomic status, find your purpose, cultivate that purpose and serve it well.
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." - Matthew 25:40 (KJV)
